4 Feb 2022: Transcelestial has partnered with a regional systems integrator, Synetcom International, to introduce its wireless laser communications technology to institutions across various public sectors in Singapore including education, government and defence, as well as the private sector.
“Campus environments face scaling challenges when trying to improve the quality of connectivity between buildings that are far apart. Currently, organisations only have two viable options – the first is deploying fiber cables which comes with a dollar and time cost to set up, the second is radio frequency-based solutions which are subject to interference from other channels and they lack security assurances. With Transcelestial’s technology, organisations get the best of all worlds – performance, quick to deploy and cost-effective, and without having to sacrifice quality connectivity for security,” said Jason Khua, General Manager at Synetcom.
Currently, physical fiber cables are the main barrier to faster Internet delivery in cities as they are costly and slow to implement. COVID-19 has exacerbated this, resulting in delays of up to 24 months to roll out the cables typically needed in last mile connectivity for 5G, home and office broadband and enterprises.
Even in dense urban environments like Singapore, where fiber cable networks are established and readily available, the cost of leasing bandwidth from these networks and rolling out better connectivity comes at a very high dollar cost and can require downtime to upgrade.
Transcelestial’s technology beams lasers instead, which enables fiber-grade Internet connections without the need for any wires between buildings, cell towers or street-level poles, and can be implemented in a fraction of the time and cost of physical fiber cables.
Going to market with Synetcom means that Transcelestial’s solution will be sold, implemented and supported locally by an authorised partner. Their specialisation across Singapore in communication technology solutions and more than two decades of experience will mean organisations can look forward to localised support via a dedicated point of contact with Synetcom to help them deploy Transcelestial’s technology.
“Having Synetcom’s confidence in our cutting edge wireless fiber optics technology reaffirms our market fit for education, defence, government institutions and telecom – even in a heavily fiber-connected nation like Singapore. Their support to bring Transcelestial’s solution to industries and enterprises in Singapore will help accelerate the adoption of Industry 4.0, disaster recovery, private 5G and other related real-world applications,” said Rohit Jha, CEO and Co-Founder of Transcelestial.
– END OF ANNOUNCEMENT –
Transcelestial has mass-produced a solution for superfast global Internet distribution that leverages its proprietary Wireless Laser Communication Technology to create a wireless distribution network between buildings, traditional cell towers, street-level poles and other physical infrastructure – with a much lower total cost of operation than fiber for Mobile Network Operators, Internet Service Providers and enterprises.
In the longer-term, Transcelestial aims to develop a constellation of small satellites positioned in Low Earth Orbit, allowing their laser network to not only beam across cities but upwards to connect continents across the world too.
Transcelestial has won numerous industry and global awards such as SPIFFY San Andreas Award for Most Disruptive Technology by Telecom Council, Forbes 30 Under 30 to our CTO Dr. Mohammad Danesh, Edge 35 Under 35 to our CEO Rohit Jha, The Most Ambitious Start-Up in Photonics Award by The Optical Society (OSA), etc.
Founded in Dec 2016, the Transcelestial team is located in Singapore and is backed by major investors such as Wavemaker Partners, EDBI, Airbus Ventures, Kickstart Ventures, Cap Vista, SEEDS Capital (Enterprise SG), Entrepreneur First, Partech Ventures, 500 Startups, AirTree Ventures, Tekton Ventures, SGInnovate, SparkLabs Global Ventures, Michael Seibel (CEO of Y-Combinator, Founder of Twitch.tv), Charles Songhurst (Microsoft’s former Head of Corporate Strategy) and others.
